Reflections on Binkylessness

It’s been almost two months now since I’ve been without Binky.  Momma made me go cold turkey as of Jan 1st.  In the end, I think it was the right thing to do.

The first week was the hardest, and Momma and Daddy almost caved.  The first night I screamed (hard core) for almost an hour before going to sleep.  The second night was slightly better and it just kept improving bit by bit.  After about a week and a half it wasn’t such a big deal anymore.  I napped at school without one too.

One really good thing about it is that my bedtime routine has improved.  Momma or Daddy used to just put me in bed, give me the bink and a kiss and say goodnight before leaving.  But now they spend more time with me and sing me songs.  I request my favorites every night: Baa Baa, Doo Doo, Itsy, Twinkle, and ABC.  All this past week I have gone to sleep without making any fuss.

I still remember Binky very fondly.  Occasionally, I see it in photos and in other babies mouths and I yell “Binky”.  But I know that it is gone and that those binkys belong to other babies and not to me.

Hands off my Momma

Are you less than three feet tall?

Then keep your hands off my Momma.  I don’t want any other babies touching her.  She’s mine.

What happens if you do touch my Momma?  You’ll get a hand to the face and a good shove.  Little baby Alex at daycare learned that lesson this morning.

Mommy is #1

Mad LizaI want Mommy and no one else will do.

If you do not produce her in the next 15 seconds I will start screaming and continue until I see her. Don’t even think about trying to pick me up because I will just arch my back and shove you away. I may hurt myself in the process, but such measures are necessary to communicate my complete dissatisfaction with your presence and attention in lieu of hers.

Can you not tell that I’ve had a really hard day? My ear hurts and I’ve got throbbing gums. I’m about to lose it, so just go away and send Mommy in here RIGHT NOW. I don’t care if she’s busy, give her to me!

My First Temper Tantrum

My MaracaIt is sooo frustrating when I can’t have what I want. I used to just go with the flow, but I’ve had it up to here (that’s about 21 inches to my chin) with Momma controlling what I can or can’t have. And I let her and everyone else in my Wiggleworms class know it.

It all started when the time came for us babies to break out our maracas and start shaking (no, we don’t just wiggle- we shake too). I have the same maraca that most babies in the class have: a boring flat green one that was bought in the school store. But not Collin. Collin has a shiny blue maraca with a pattern all over it. He’s bigger than me, but he didn’t object when I grabbed it right out of his hands. Momma had to go and give it right back to him, and I had to try and get it back- and I kept trying – but she wouldn’t let me. She said I was “obsessed”. So I laid myself face down on the floor and screamed my frustration. And she just laughed.

Why can’t I have a fancy maraca? Momma won’t give in. She says, “It starts with a fancy maraca, but before you know it, it’s a flashy car.” What’s that all about? She doesn’t have to buy me one… just take Collin’s.

Peas & Carrots

Let me ask you this… when you’re eating your dinner does someone else hold your spoon for you? Does someone else control how much and how fast the food comes? I didn’t think so.

Momma, Daddy, Why don’t you let me feed myself? I don’t understand what the issue is. I’m perfectly capable. Can I hold the spoon all by myself? Yes. Can I get it in my mouth? Yes, of course, I can get anything in there. Do I end up getting much of the food on my face and highchair? Yes, but so what?

You’ll clean it up.

My Address to the Nation

This video is actually a bit old. It was filmed two weeks ago. I haven’t shared it yet, because it is so controversial. In it I discuss my views on what’s good and bad with the world, who should be president, how to improve the economy, and what’s in my diaper.
