6 Months Old!

Wow, half a year already! But this birthday was bittersweet as it also meant a trip to the Dr. and more shots. And I got measured again and I’m still “off the charts” for height. My weight gain is slowing down though, so it looks like I’ll be tall and thin. I’ve plugged all the numbers into Excel and created a graphic to chart my progress.Growth Charts

My skills are improving too. Here’s what I’m doing:

  • Sitting up on my own
  • Army crawl
  • Raspberries and Screeches
  • Cat tail pull
  • Momma hair pull
  • Daddy poke-in-the-eye
  • Toe suck
  • Pulling toys out of box
  • Charming anyone who comes near me with my (still toothless) smile

Group Croup

We babies like to make lots of sounds.  We especially like to make animal noises like “moo” and “gribbit, gribbit” and “arf, arf”.  I can’t make those sounds – yet.  But Momma and Daddy fouond out this last week that I can bark like a seal.

 Let me explain.

I go to day care with a lot of other cool kids.  We share a lot – our toys, our smiles, and even our germs.  Last week there was a lot of germ swapping going on – ’tis the season after all.  My buddies gave me the croup.  I started barking like a seal at day care and got really hot – they called Mommy at work and told her I had a fever, whatever that is.  All I know is that my throat was really dry and my voice was deep and scratchy.

The next day Grandma Joyce came over and held me all day long.  I wasn’t my usual sparkling self though.  I just wanted her to hold me and keep me warm.  It was nice to stay home from school but this croup thing was really wearing me out.

Nighttime has been rough on Momma and Daddy.  They wake up when I do my barking seal impersonation, and I have been doing it a lot.  Daddy bought me a neat machine that puts water into the air so I can breathe better – it makes a little extra noise in the bedroom but that’s o.k..

This all started on Wednesday and I am just now mustering the energy to write this post – it’s Sunday!  I haven’t been all bad for Momma and Daddy though – I have shared my germs with them!  They keep blowing their noses and sneezing real loud.  Sometimes their sneezes startle me – keep it down you two, especially when I’m trying to get my beauty sleep!  I guess we all have the croup now.  No doctors so far though…….

I’m hoping to see my friends at day care tomorrow morning.  We’ll see.  Daddy says it’s gonna be a “game-time decision”.  Daddy, my life is NOT a game.  I have a very importatnt social life and intend on making my scheduled appearance on the play mat tomorrow morning.

New Wheels

My parents bought me a new set of wheels and we took them for a ride. Goodbye little baby seat stroller (which I have freakishly outgrown by 6 months), I’ve got a big baby stroller now. New StrollerAnd no more moving backwards and always having to stare up at my driver, I get to look forward now and see where I’m going.

We went to the store and tried out several models before I settled on this one. It rides smooth, can be steered with one hand, comes with a great rain fly, and is a cool gray with green accents. Momma said something about it being “gender-neutral” though I don’t quite understand why that was an important feature.  It’s also a little baby lazy-boy: it reclines and has a footrest. This is an important feature as long walks really tire me out.

I had them push me around the Skokie Sculpture Park. We stopped for hot dogs, and Daddy pimped my ride with a pink balloon. When we got back to the car he inhaled the air from the balloon and talked in a funny voice. He’s so goofy.

Foiled!

I had it timed perfectly. I quick guzzled down 5oz of milk right before Momma picked me up from daycare so that my stomach would be well-primed. Then, when she lifted me above her head in the parking lot for a little pre-carseat game, I let loose some curdled stuff from my mouth. It was big, it was thick, and it was stinky. My aim was good, but Momma was too quick. She musta heard it bubbling to the surface because she quickly ducked out of the way. Instead, the concrete floor and my own pants were the unfortunate recipients of my milky regurgitation. Drats!
